"With a Vengeance" nghĩa là gì?

Từ vengeance có nghĩa là sự trả thù, báo thù. Tuy nhiên thành ngữ 'with a vengeance' lại chỉ một hành động nào đó diễn ra một cách dữ dội, quyết liệt hơn là mong đợi, ở mức độ mạnh hơn bình thường.
Ví dụ
“My friend was telling me how critical her supervisor is. Once she was called into his office for a minor infraction (lỗi) and the man screamed at her! So she made a mistake, but there was no need for him to go after her with a vengeance (mắng nhiếc thậm tệ). Maybe he should get some counseling for anger management.”
“I’m making sure I’m well stocked for winter. I’ve already bought a new shovel and bags of salt to melt ice. I’m ready should the Washington area get socked with the record-breaking snowfall we had last year, nearly 40 inches of snow! It snowed with a vengeance (thật dữ dội).”
