'To give someone some lip' có nghĩa là nói với ai đó một cách thô lỗ và không tôn trọng họ.
Ví dụ
That rude young boy gave me some lip when I asked him to stop smoking.
She gave her neighbor some lip because she was in bad mood. Now he wants to move house!
Xin lưu ý
Xin đừng nhầm với 'To pay lip service' (to something) có nghĩa là nói ủng hộ điều gì nhưng trên thực tế không hề có ý định như vậy (lời đầu môi chót lưỡi?).
The food industry is only paying lip service to government campaigns to make people eat a healthy diet. Their products are very high in salt and sugar.

Phụ nữ các bộ tộc Suri ở Ethiopia sử dụng miếng môi đất sét. Từ khi còn nhỏ, họ xuyên (pierce) và kéo dài đôi môi của mình để có thể chứa được miếng môi này. Kích thước miếng môi của một người phụ nữ quyết định số lượng bò mà gia đình cô sẽ nhận được khi cô kết hôn.

Ex:
